In planning for their first year at Burning Man, in 2001, Nadja, Will and Josie of Panty Camp were overwhelmed with inspirations of how to contribute to the Burning Man community. After throwing around ideas of building robots, giant vaginas, and robotic giant vaginas, Will’s suggestion of a tent made of panties instantly struck a chord with Nadja and Josie’s feminist art sensibilities.
